Now that summer is drawing to a close (and I spent an indecently decadent summer holiday lounging pool-side in the South of France), it’s time to start thinking about la rentrée (which is what the French call the return to school and work in September).
I’m thinking of clothes for the cooler months and also makeup looks that can work from Fall to winter and into the Christmas season which will be on us before you know it. So this season Burberry’s makeup look went off-piste – over to the glitter side, to be exact. With glam-rock influences, Burberry Beauty Creative Consultant (and mega makeup artist) Wendy Rowe added some sparkle and shine to a traditional smoky eye.
Long time MM readers will know that I love Burberry makeup, AND I love glitter so this particular new iteration of the Burberry Beauty brand was always going to be right up my alley.
Since London Fashion Week has just wrapped up, I couldn’t resist a quick BTS video of Burberry’s Creative Director, Wendy Rowe giving us a run-down on this season’s look, which is a lived-in smoky eye. So up my alley!
Just when you thought you couldn’t POSSIBLY need another black eyeliner product in your handbag, along comes Burberry’s new eyeliner pens to change your mind. Burberry have to have one of the best marketing strategies I’ve ever seen – their ads and campaigns are always beautiful, always on brand and feature gorgeous English models, like this one with Suki Waterhouse who is the perfect modern 60’s muse.
It couldn’t really be more Burberry if it tried – Kate and Cara sitting on a giant perfume bottle, in classic Burberry trench coats. Despite not being able to appreciate the perfume one iota (due to scrambled olfactory senses after the birth of my son – my sense of smell has never gone back to normal, such a bummer), I can still appreciate two British supermodels being gorgeous as it rains perfume. Sigh. If only life were like that.
In fact stuff the supermodels and the perfumed rain, I’d settle for one of those Burberry trench coats.
So the Burberry woman doesn’t vary that much from season to season – she’s always polished, English, and quintessentially cool with the expert hands of makeup artist Wendy Rowe and fabulous hairdresser Neil Moodie tweaking her look, but always sticking with the brand DNA.
This season I particularly liked though, as it’s inspired by the Bloomsbury literary and artistic movement of last century, and this is the type of eye I think is perfect for the cooler months. It’s a gorgeous mix of aubergine and taupey-mauve that works not only for the likes of Burberry girls like Edie Campbell, Cara Delevingne and Suki Waterhouse, but also makes the eye colour of mere mortals pop. The sheer coverage foundation and light enhancing luminsers makes even average civilian skins look good. Here’s the Burberry Beauty products Wendy Rowe used:
